As another week passes by and another week where more incredible children continue to amaze me with their positive attitudes and dedication in and out of school. The work brought in from home recently has been outstanding! We have some amazing artists in our school and I can’t thank them enough for bringing their artwork into school to share with me.

Road Safety
My first thanks this week goes to Mandy from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Mandy came into school on Monday to delivery our PSHE assemblies this week and shared the top tips for keeping safe next to and when crossing roads. Did you know there was a type of road crossing called a ‘Pegasus’ crossing and that it is used for people to cross roads safely when on horses! Every day is a learning day!
Friends of Northstead – A big thanks!
A huge thanks to our Friends of Northstead (FONS) who have generously donated some funds into school to pay for some new library books and for a special visitor to come into school very soon. Richard Buck, an actor and sportsperson will be visiting school soon as part of our PSHE topic of Dreams and Goals. Further FONS events are currently in planning the Spring and Summer terms – look out for the details coming home soon.
Writing challenge number 2.
Learn about a famous historical person. They could be famous for: an invention, for music, for sporting achievement, for changing laws. What can you write to explain who they are, why they are famous and how they have helped change the world? Send your entries to my office by Friday 10th February. I’m looking forward to learning about so many famous people who you get to read and learn about.
A fond farewell
This week, Miss Colmer left Northstead to begin her maternity leave. We wish her well in the future and thank her for the dedication she has shown to the children of Northstead during her time with us.
Another fond farewell
Mrs Mustoe has also recently left her position at Northstead. We thank her for her valuable contribution to school over a number of years and wish her health and happiness in her future endeavours.
Sporting Superstars
On Tuesday, 18 children from years 5 and 6 took part in the Scarborough District Sporthshall Athletics Competition. The children faced some stiff competition from 9 other schools. There was a lively atmosphere and the children really embraced the competitive vibe. For many of the events, it was a close run thing. I really want to congratulate the children, as it was the first time many of them had ever tried some of the events, let alone compete for the school. Overall, we came 6th, with 99 points and this is something all the children should be proud of. They have worked as a team for the team and this is a great achievement.
Classroom news…
This week, year three have been animators. We have been sketching an Egyptian animal and thinking about how it will move, in preparation for making them into a moving picture next week.
This week, twenty children from years five and six visited Scarborough College to take part in a musical theatre workshop. Miss Hatton was extremely proud of the children’s attitudes, responsibility and enjoyment of the day. They will be showcasing what they learnt in our assembly time next week.
2JV have practiced teamwork in PSHE this week by designing and making a new bird to add to our dreams and goals garden. We discussed that there can be challenges you face when working as a team but we now know how to overcome them to achieve our goals!
In PSHE we have been thinking about challenges that some people may face, such as being blind or having a disability. The children have then begun designing a garden for their chosen person. The children have thought carefully about what each person would enjoy in their garden. They have used some creative ideas – we have lots of further landscapers in Year 3!
This week EYFS have welcomed exotic animals into our school as part of our animal antics topic! We met Jake the Snake and Eddie the tortoise and loved our question and answer sessions!
