Headteacher’s News 05-05-23

Here we are, the week before the end of key stage two tests. Our children in year 6 have worked incredibly hard and battled to be the best they can be, especially over the past few disrupted years of education. I’ve had numerous conversations with some Y6 children over the past week. All who expressed a little worry about the tests and whether they would ‘pass’ or ‘fail’. We will be super proud of every single child as long as they can say they have been the best they can be and tried their best. It seems end of KS2 sats are here to stay and so we must work closely together to make sure the children fulfil their potential and are always the best that they can be in all areas of our curriculum.

Coronation Celebrations

We had a wonderful day in school today to celebrate the upcoming celebration of King Charles. Walking round school, it was wonderful to see some amazing artwork going on but the definite highlight of the day was the appearance of King Charles in the afternoon assemblies. Some of the crowns the children (and parents) brought into school for the competition were out of this world but there can only be one winner from each class. Seeing the children high five the winner and offer their congratulations to each other was great to see and just shows the community spirit within our classrooms.

School Improvement

During this week, I have met with the Department for Education and Mr Ian Clennan (Chief Executive of Selby Educational Trust) who we have chosen as an external school improvement project partner. Over the next 20-24 months, Ian will be working closely with school on our school improvement journey using some funding from the Department for Education. Ian visited school last week and was very complimentary about our school, our children and our community and was especially complimentary about the standards our children are showing around school in terms of their responsibility and community spirit. Upon leaving, I felt an enormous sense of pride in the many positives that Ian shared from the day.

We continue to work very hard behind the scenes on improving many aspects of school and thank all our staff for their incredible hardwork and dedication to our school – our community.

Strike Action

Recently, some of our staff took the difficult decision to strike. We thank you for your understanding and hope the information from NEU for parents that was shared on class dojo was useful in understanding why teachers are striking.
