This week at Northstead…
Department for Education PEIA Board Visit School
I had the pleasure of showing members of the Department for Education Priority Investment Area board around school on Wednesday this week. As a school accessing this funding, it was great to demonstrate to them the detailed and amazing progress our school has made in the last 18 months and the steps we have put in place to ensure our CORE values run through everything we do.
The board members were very impressed with the work we have done with Selby Educational Trust and with the work we have also done to ensure our school is a safe and vibrant place for children to learn and for our staff to work.
While they were here, I did ask about them possibly building a sports hall for us. (If you don’t ask you don’t get). I’m not expecting anything but you have to take the chance to speak to people when you get the chance about how certain aspects of our premises limit what we are able to provide. A purpose built sports hall would improve the sports provision in school immensely.
Y6 SATS
Well done to all the Y6 children who have completed a ‘mock’ sats week this week. This enables us as a school to ensure we get the organisation of it all correct and to iron out any last minute issues. The children approached these with confidence and with great attitudes. They now have a few weeks left to the official sats week and we encourage them to continue to work hard and to revise the key skills needed as often as they can to ensure they can achieve as high as they want to. Hard work always reaps rewards. Be responsible for your own learning and achievement is what we are insisting we get from every child.
Literacy Trust Donations
As part of a www.literacytrust.or.uk project, we have this week had 500 new reading books delivered to school as well as some new furniture. These books will replace some old books in our library but will also be placed in classroom libraries giving the children an even wider choice of books. We thank the literacy trust for their donation and look forward to seeing how our vision for the library takes shape over the next term in preparation for September.
Miss Seeley
Great news! Miss Seeley has begun her transition back into school and it was great to see her in school today for one of her keeping in touch days.
Mr Welburn and Mrs Swales
Earlier than planned, Mrs Swales has now commenced her maternity leave and Mr Welburn has taken over as class teacher of class 17. We wish Mrs Swales the very best for her maternity leave and hope she has a great time with her new baby when he/she is born.
Miss Johnson (Trainee Teacher in Y4)
Today marked Miss Johnson’s last day with us as a trainee teacher and her last placement day as a trainee teacher. Miss Johnson has worked incredibly hard and made an amazing impact on the children in class 15. It has been a pleasure to see her develop as a teacher over the time she has been with us and we are certain that she will be an amazing teacher when she is appointed to a teaching role. Well done Miss Johnson!
School Council Raffle
Thanks to those who have already returned their raffle tickets. Remember that you do not have to return all ten. Even one ticket will give you the chance to win the amazing prizes we have on offer. Remember that this raffle is to enable our school council to purchase ‘Buddy Benches’ for the playground. A project they are very passionate about and with your help will come true.
A warm welcome
It was national primary school offer day on Tuesday and I am delighted to say that we have accepted 90 new children and their families into our school community for September 2024. We look forward to welcoming our new children and their families to our school over the coming months and getting to know them all.
EYFS Tea and Toast
It was wonderful to see so many of our EYFS parents and carers joining us this week for tea and toast with your children. We thank you for giving up your time to celebrate your child’s learning journey with them (and enjoyed the tea and toast).
Gallows Close Trip – Year 2
Many thanks to our friends at Gallows Close who gave up their time to enable our Y2 children to visit and learn about plants growing and showed them round their community allotment. The start of what we hope is an amazing partnership between us.
Lunchtime Superstars
Today at lunchtime I was joined by some of our star of the week winners for lunch with the Headteacher. They wanted to share the following…
“The best school ever.”
“The best school in the entire universe.”
“The best school ever and the coolest school ever.”
Have a great weekend everyone and we will see you all next week for another fun-filled adventure in learning.
